We are very excited to début our Jr Youth Group’s new name. STAFF. Students Together Actively Following Faith. We decided that this is such a good way to describe the great young people in this group. We are as you know all members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The Good Shepherd uses His Staff to assist Him in His journeys and carries it every where He goes. The youth (or STAFFers) are actively following our Good Shepherd as they continue to explore their Christian faith and enter into their teen age years. We want them to know that regardless of if they are at home, at church, at school, playing sports, or hanging out with friends that they are always in the Good Shepherd’s hands.
STAFF is off to a great year. We had a group that went to Oglethorpe University on January 18th to cheer for one of our own, Branden Jovaag. He played a great game. The team won. And our group had a great afternoon together.
We helped to make sheep for centerpieces for the 50th anniversary celebration. We had about 15 STAFF members, parents, and ladies from the congregation who spent about three hours making 60 sheep. If you happen to see a llama in the herd...remember that God loves us all!
STAFF wanted to show our love and support for the three men of our congregation who selflessly spend their time, talents, and money to serve the Lord by completing the building for mission in Guatemala. To make their travels a little nicer we sent them each with a soft, custom made prayer pillow and goody bag with snacks. We hope this made their journey and their nights a little more comfortable. We wanted them to know that as they made this journey that we appreciate their sacrifice to give to others. Thank you to all who donated vitamins and first aide supplies that will go to Guatemala. This will be a much needed gift to help with some basic needs.
The lock-in last month was great fun for all the youth that attended. Thank you to Carl and Diane Engel and Pastor Ben for hosting and facilitating the night!! The group had a great time with friends, fun devotions, music jam sessions, movies, and very little sleep. They learned truths about each other that they didn’t know before. They had a couple of team building activities followed by devotions lead by Pastor. And of course there was pizza and plenty of junk food to munch on during the night.
Thank you to Lori Lake for working with several of the STAFF girls (also known as the Pom Pom girls) to create the routine, for all the practice sessions, and dressing them to the part for their Carnivale début. We all enjoyed the work that you all put into the routine.
Way to go girls…
STAFF also prepared a Lenten Meal at the church on Wednesday, March 10th.
The next big thing that STAFF is working on is the shirts that you may all order to commemorate the 50 years of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Samples of the shirts are on display at the church. We tried to think of colors and styles to allow everyone the chance to find something you will like. It will be great to see these shirts in our community to show what a great congregation we have here at GSLC and to support our church.
Please continue to support us and help us GROW in faith and numbers… STAFF
