GSLC Activities

MID-WEEK BIBLE STUDY  resumes this week on Wednesday at 1:30.

GWINNETT BRAVES GAME  Is TODAY - at 2:00 pm.  Tickets are still available for $12 each.  Our seats are in the shade for the entire game, up at the very top, so there are very few steps to deal with and there’s a nice breeze.  Be spontaneous!  You still have time to get home to change after service and be at the ball field for the first pitch!  See Judy in the narthex after service.

CHOIR   If you like to sing (or make a joyful noise), now is the time to join the choir.  Practice will be on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 – beginning this week, September 1.

THE COOKBOOKS ARE HERE!!  Please stop by the table in the narthex to pick up advance orders.  If you didn't pre-order, don't panic - we have plenty to go around at $10 each.  Get your copy(ies) today!

CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL MEETING  TODAY is the meeting for anyone interested in helping with this year's Christmas Festival.  We will meet in room 1 of Shepherd’s Shed between services, around 9:45.  Everyone is welcome!

CAR WASH COUPONS  Don't forget we still have car wash coupons for sale for $10 each.  Good Shepherd gets $5 for each coupon sold.  All proceeds will go toward the Christmas Festival.

WOMEN’S RETREAT  There is still one space left for the Women's Retreat!  It will be held September 17-19 at the "Lodge at Summit Ridge" near Ellijay, GA.  The cost for the retreat is $125.  Please see Celina Haupt if you have any questions.

FOOD PANTRY – Items needed for the food pantry in SEPTEMBER:  Shampoo, toothpaste/tooth brushes and peanut butter & jelly.  Also, we can always use paper grocery bags.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ TRAINING   The teacher training that was scheduled today has been canceled so that members of the Christian Education Committee can examine new materials being used at a church in Atlanta.  Thanks to those who have volunteered to teach Sunday school this year.  We are still looking for some substitutes.

BABY “SPRINKLE”  For anyone who wishes to “sprinkle” Celina with gifts for the baby-to-be, come for brunch on Saturday, September 11.  Celina is registered at Babies-R-Us in Buford and at Walmart. For more information, see Melissa Tymchuk or Margie Smith.

LIBRARY  Come “check out” the books in our library!  It is located in Shepherd Shed, room 2, and will be open anytime the church is open.  Instructions are posted in the room.  A wish list for new books is located on a bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall – if you have one of the books listed, please consider donating it to the library or you may simply complete the form and attach a donation.

LUTHERAN LIFE  the latest issue of our district’s newsletter is now available online at www.lutherlanlifeonline.com.  There is also a link from our website.  For those who do not have access to the internet, a few copies have been printed and are in the narthex.  Look through and see photos of some familiar people in this issue!

THANK YOU FROM WAUKA MOUNTAIN  the school supplies that were collected were given to Wauka Mountain School.  The school sent us a letter of thanks.  An excerpt from that letter reads, “On more than one occasion last week, a child came to school without any supplies and the child’s eyes lit up when we were able to take a brand new book bag and fill it with the needed supplies.”  Please read the entire letter on the bulletin board in the narthex.  The school and the children are most appreciative.

SAVE THE DATE  October 2 is the “Good News For Gainesville Bike Ride,” benefitting Good News at Noon, Good News Medical Clinic, and Adults Protecting Children.  Good Shepherd is one of the sponsoring churches of this bike ride, open for all ages, with an entry fee of $25.  A poster and entry forms are on the bulletin board in the narthex – by the flower chart.  For more information see Pastor Ben or Margie Smith.

NATIONAL OFFERING  A thank you card has been received for our offerings to the “One People – Sharing Christ’s Love” national offering that was sent to the Synodical convention in July.  As of the week of the convention (before our offerings an many others were received), the LCMS had received more than $614,000 to help provide for the ministries of the Synod.  The final total will be much higher.  To see how those funds will be distributed, please look at the card on the bulletin board in the narthex (in the corner near the flower chart).

MISSING BUSY BAGS  Busy bags are available for children age four and under during worship service, however they are to be returned after services.  Our volunteer, Sondra Lightfoot, cleans and sanitizes them each week so they are ready for your little one again the following Sunday.  At this time, we are missing several of the bags.  Please check your cars and your homes to see if your child inadvertently took one home, and if so, would you please return it so that it can be used again?  Thanks!
